Outreach

PROBUS 911

Sometimes our members may need a helping hand:

  • A ride to the hospital to visit a loved one
  • A ride to a home to visit someone who is physically sick or in need of emotional support
  • Assistance in making decisions regarding their health care and general well being
  • A ride to community offered support services

Given the diverse needs of our members and the fact that they can quickly change as circumstances befall and given that family and friends may not be close at hand to help, wouldn’t it be wonderful if a supportive team could be formed? PROBUS-911.

Dr. Pat Gunton leads a team of volunteers. She writes:

We all are gifted and talented in unique ways and those who are skilled at driving or visiting, or health care…could make up such a team. I am happy to head-up and coordinate a 911 team and to be responsible for any health care needs but I am a mediocre driver and annoying visitor so I need other talented Probus members to help. Please think about your special skills to see if you can help. This is not a substitute for the real 911, but I believe our members may find Probus-911 useful.

The community outreach aspect of the club is very well run by Alice in her role as Sunshine Girl. In this role Alice reports on the well being of our members so that we are understanding of changing circumstances that our members face from time to time. Probus-911 shares a similar interest in being concerned for the well being of members but it allows volunteers to offer a tangible resource when there is need.
